As I was reading the paper, I came across this article about a cleaner robot which turned itself on before setting itself on fire...the unit reactivated on a kitchen worktop (counter) after the family went out, then moved a cooking pot (saucepan) and sat on a hotplate (burner)...it soon melted, which caused a spark to ignite and start a fire in Hinterstoder, Austria.

I thought that this was bizarre and it reminded me of the movie 'Bicentennial Man' and perhaps if they gave it something else to do then the robot wouldn't have done this..

The owner of the said robot believed it was bored..

Do you believe that this is possible or do you think that it was simply a malfunction?

Thoughts?

hmm a robot cannot really have feelings unless its prograhmed to have certain feelings if you will. almost like AI but AI is not even close yet.
